Happy Birthday to the Church! - Pentecost Sunday- May 11

In the Book of the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2: 1-21)we read about the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit on the apostles 50 days after Easter. We call this feast Pentecost, and refer to it as the birthday of the church because this event marked the beginning of the apostles' public proclamation of the Good News of Jesus.
Come and celebrate the out-pouring of the Spirit in our lives at our special liturgies at both 8 and 10 am on Sunday, May 11. We will hear readings in several langauges, have special music, a spirit-led sermon, and continue the celebration after worship at our coffee hour, to which everyone in invited!

Annual Diocesan Convention
Our Annual Diocesan Convention is Friday, January 25 through Saturday, January 26. At theis meeting lay and clergy delegates vote on resolutions, elect members to committees and boards, including the delegates to the General Convention, receive reports, and worship together. The vison for this convention is "Standing with the Risen Christ at the Gates of Hope". The four gates are worship, Spiritual Formation, Justice/Nonviolence, and Radical Hospitality. Please keep the Convention delegates in your prayers.
O God, help us to claim our mission: to stand with the living Christ at the gates of hope. Not the prudent gates of optimism, which are somewhat narrower; nor the strident gates of self-righteousness, which creak on shrill and angry hinges; but a very different, sometimes very lonely place. It is the place of truth-telling, about our own souls first of all and its condition; the place of resistance and defiance, the piece of ground from which we see the world both as it is and as it could be, as it will be; the place from which we glimpse not only struggle, but joy in the struggle – with the Christ who sets us free; and we stand there, beckoning and calling, telling people what we see, asking people what they see. In Christ’s name we pray. - Adapted from a prayer by Victoria Safford

Advent Stars - Collection begins Dec 2

Advent Stars is a way of bringing some of the joy of Christmas into the lives of children who might otherwise have no gift to open on Christmas morning. During Advent we remember that we have been blessed by God to be a blessing to others. We show our gratitude for our many blessings by buying new toys and clothing for children whose parents are in jail or prison.
Advent Stars are found on the narthex bulletin board. On the back of the star you will find the child’s initials, age, and a wish. Wrap your gift in a GIFT BAG. Gifts wrapped in paper cannot go into the jail. Gifts will be distributed the week of December 16.

Homecoming Sunday

Homecoming: to return to a place that is considered home.
Homecoming Sunday is a day to celebrate our life as a parish family. It is a wonderful time to share with one another the stories of our summer past, and to plan for the year ahead. Homecoming Sunday marks the start of Sunday School, choir, nursery care, and our regular programs. Everyone, new-comer as well as long-time parishioner, is invited to the BBQ on the front lawn following the 10 am service.
Our annual Homecoming BBQ is organized by our vestry. The church will provide hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages. Please bring a salad, dessert, or some trimmings! Sign up in the narthex or call the church office if you are attending. There are games for the children, too. See you there!
Attention Crucifers and Torch Bearers--and those who want to be, too!
Robe Fitting and Training: Saturday, September 15 at 4 p.m.
Make sure your vestments fit before your next service! All acolytes need to be refitted on Saturday September 15. All vestments must be labeled with the name of the wearer. Only crucifers, and not torch bearers, may share a robe.
We will also have a review of how to serve as an acolyte. It is important that all acolytes, new and seasoned attend.
Anyone interested in being trained as an acolyte should call the church office or speak to Rev. Pamela.

Ecumenical Blessing of the Animals Service - Sunday, October 7 at 1 p.m.

Calling all pets and their owners! On Sunday, October 7, in honor of St. Francis and this season of creation, we will give special thanks for our pets that give us so much love and comfort. Our simple service is open to all and takes place on the church lawn beginning at 1 pm. The service will be held in the Parish Hall in the case of rain.
We are collecting pet food, clean towels, and money for distribution at a local shelter as our offering during the service. The Bloomfield Animal Shelter will have photos of pets looking for good homes.
